Jeffery W. Dickerson joined us on November 27, 1963 and left May 22, 2010 in a terrible accident.  Jeff was blessed with a larger than life personality which touched so many that several friends and family have launched a local memorial scholarship fund in his name to honor his memory and inspire future generations of Wells/Ogunquit students.

Jeff was a beloved son of Bill and Jan, brother to his sisters, Gail and Julie, and cousin, uncle or godfather to literally dozens of locals. He was also an Eagle Scout, Mason, member of the Wells Congregational Church, proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and above all else a loving husband to his high school sweetheart, Gail, and devoted father to his children, Deidre and Chad.

A lifelong resident of Wells, Jeff and Gail built their home on his favorite spot of family land.  He drove for UPS for 23 years, a job fit for a man who enjoyed being outdoors more than inside.  He was noted around his New Hampshire route for wearing his UPS shorts year round, an example of how Jeff enjoyed attracting the attention of others.

Jeff loved to organize various reunions, family gatherings, hunting trips, camping excursions, UMO tailgating parties, and other events that brought together the people he loved for a good time.  He could often be found camping with his family on Mettallak Island on Richardson Lake, or at the family cottage on Great Moose Pond.

Jeff was always willing to help his family, parents, neighbors and friends whenever possible from building camps, tree stands, clearing brush, to fixing their cars. With a wide range of interests, he enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, boating, and restoring old cars.  He could often be seen cruising in his restored Pontiac Grand Ville convertible during the summer,  even offering his Godchildren the opportunity to impress their prom dates with this prized possession.

The personality Jeff portrayed was one of a little boy, quick witted and funny.  His answering machine was always up to date with informative announcements about the local mosquito population, the snowflake count, or other seasonal observations.  He lived his life under “Full Sail” and enjoyed every minute of it.

Jeff leaves behind a legacy of laughter, devotion, service, and inspiration.  It is our hope that awarding a scholarship in his name to a senior who has attended the Wells/Ogunquit school system since kindergarten and who embraces those same values will keep that legacy alive for generations to follow.
